Joslyn ate dried plums and 1/2 of oatmeal for breakfast. For lunch she only had a bite of hash brown casserole, a couple bites of biscuit, bite of mandarin oranges. Morgan didn't have much of an appetite today either, so we blamed it on them not feeling well yesterday. :)
Shortly after arriving Joslyn and Thomas had a head-on collision. Joslyn was busy chasing Aaron and she whirled around and crashed into Thomas. (sorry, but she was the 'at-fault' driver in this wreck.) They thudded pretty hard and howled for a couple of minutes. Lauralea held Joslyn and I comforted Thomas.
She kind of glared at us like we were the guilty party. :)
She did follow Aaron around again, continuing her Friday routine. He likes it and will turn around and follow her around too.
The kids were at the window watching the garbage workers. They always come on Fridays, but usually during nap time. So this was a 'treat'. (Hey, we take any kind of entertainment we can get!)
She played with the food toys and was trying to feed Thomas. He did not really want her to, but she was determined he should eat I guess. So it was basically a 'force-feed' situation. :) Yes Thomas, I will come rescue you.
We want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas! We love you guys and enjoy having Joslyn in our program. :)

Joslyn ate whole wheat toast and mixed berries for breakfast. For lunch she ate ham, crackers, bean-bacon soup, and kiwi.
Joslyn was having fun with the "ready, set, go" game again. That's a favorite right now with everyone. She was being a bit physical on the mattress; not being mean, just wanting physical contact like rolling on others or grabbing them. Does she and Colt play that way sometimes? Thomas is the only one here right now that likes that kind of play.
Later, she and Thomas were running back and forth in the closet giggling and laughing. That was basically the game and they were enjoying themselves. Thomas was doing it by himself and it looked like fun so she joined him.
She played off by herself frequently today too. Usually it was reading books, but also with the kitchen sets and stacking blocks. Sometimes she prefers to be left alone. Not home alone, just playing alone. :)
Joslyn likes the new baby and is trying to get acquainted with her. She and several others still get her confused with Riley. They both have dark hair and about the same size. Hey, Lauralea and I both get Joslyn and Morgan confused. From the 'top view' when they both have ponytails they do look similar. :)

Joslyn ate a whole wheat bagel and dried apricots for breakfast. For lunch she ate tilapia, pea and pasta salad, and applesauce.
We had a couple of ladies here from Child Care Resources Food Program doing some monitoring during breakfast time. (They make sure we're serving healthy meals, following regulations, check our menus, etc.) Joslyn stayed away from them of course and basically tried to ignore them. When they left she said, "bye bye friend". :) Now that's comedy. I also like how she pronounced friend; "fwend"
She played with the dolls a lot today. She had two of them all wrapped up, feeding them, snuggling them, and laying them down for naps. Then she laid down with them, well basically on them, and started sucking her thumb. :)
She saw me snuggling baby Riley and she headed right over, crawled up too, started sucking her thumb, and was happy as could be. Very cute. Life was good. (momentarily)
We got some new heart-shaped bracelets and the kids had fun with those. This is the phrase we used: "You can have one for each hand." Joslyn thinks that means, "You can have all of them on Your hands!" :)

Joslyn had bites of breakfast: bran cereal and dried cranberries. For lunch she ate pizza, cauliflower, and tropical fruit.
We did a toy and book exchange so Joslyn was a very busy girl all morning. She headed right for the food toys and laid out her territory and protected that territory fiercely. (It really wasn't that bad, but I thought that sounded good.) She did a bit a screaming, but after being reminded she seemed to level off pretty well. She stayed very busy and was not interested in stopping for breakfast. (but she did.) Every once in a while she would say, "dinner time!" These are the baking toys in this set with some realistic looking cookies, cakes, and cupcakes. (Sounds like a pretty good dinner to me.) We did have to remind her that other kids could play with the food toys too. She reminded me of one of those survivalists; she was stockpiling lots of food. :)
Emily and Joslyn were playing their game of "ready, set, go." They line up at the wall and run and flop on the mattress. Emily initiated it and as soon as Joslyn heard her say the phrase she headed right over there.
Joslyn played with the dolls and again one doll was not enough. She thought she had to have three and no one else needed to have one.
She was calling Nora (our new baby) "Riley". (and "Riley Roo") The baby was fussy and Lauralea was experimenting with ways to get her to eat. Joslyn was concerned and watching intently.
Morgan started doing this and Joslyn picked right up on it; They were putting several purses on their arms and saying, "going work." (it looked to me like they were going shopping.) :)

Joslyn ate malt-o-meal cereal and raisins for breakfast. For lunch she ate spaghetti, lettuce salad, and mixed fruit.
Joslyn is always happy when Aaron is here; which is most Fridays. She'll follow him around first thing in the morning and try leading him around. (she hasn't got him broke to lead yet.)
Speaking of happy she had a great morning. She didn't scream at anyone this morning, listened very well, and stayed very engaged in playing with the toys. Good job Joslyn!
They all helped load the washing machine and that is always a highlight. We put the stool by the washer and they climb up with their goods and dump them in. Joslyn was working hard at it and made several trips back and forth. (Love that free labor.) :) Now, if they didn't require so much supervision.
She was spinning around and around and got really dizzy. She tried standing up three times and kept stumbling backwards and landing on Thomas every time. She had a soft landing, but he was not too impressed.
She had a doll blanket wrapped around herself like a shawl and was playing with the food toys. Of course she had on three vests at the same time too.

Joslyn ate raisin english muffin and blueberries for breakfast. For lunch she had bite of chicken and crackers, ate potato salad, and cherries.
She played with the dolls a lot and it was very cute. She had them wrapped with blankets and was singing to them. She also had a doll bottle and was feeding them. She kept saying, "open your mouth!" (as she was jamming the bottle in the mouth.) :)
She was reading several books, playing with the keys, and talking on the cell phone. Playing with the keys has been a favorite this week. They've been sticking a key into every hole they can find. And when she was talking on the cell phone I asked who she was talking to and she said, "Gary." (I didn't even hear the phone ring.) :) It seemed to be a one-sided conversation.
The new baby is visiting today and will start on Monday. (after Joslyn turns two) Her name is Nora and everyone has been huddled around her checking her out and getting acquainted.
Joslyn was laying in the bottom of the 'dress up clothes rack'. She was laying in there singing to her doll and it looked really cute so I'll include a picture of that.

December 14, 2011
Joslyn ate a biscuit and her peaches for breakfast. For lunch she ate baked beans, bites of dinner roll, ate broccoli, and pineapple.
Joslyn played with the dress up clothes again and was wearing multiple vests. (AGAIN) :) That's one of her favorite activities right now. She'll wear 2 - 5 vests at a time.
She and Jadey had a confrontation and Joslyn ended up scratching Jadey on the cheek. We were applying a cold cloth and then we had Joslyn go give her a love and gentle touch. Jadey said, "now she love me." :) uuuhh, I kind of doubt it.
Several of the girls were playing with the dolls. They were wrapping them with blankets, feeding them, singing to them, and having them take naps. Then Jadey had her doll doing the motions to the songs, so everyone had to do that too.
Joslyn and Morgan were sitting on the yellow bench reading books. Then they were taking turns reading to each other. (well, maybe not taking turns; just reading to each other.)

Joslyn ate waffles and hash browns for breakfast. For lunch she ate bite of shrimp, ate brown rice, peppers, and oranges.
Jadey and Morgan were looking at family posters and quizzing each other with; "who is that?" They went to the Callahan family poster first and were answering, "Melanie, Colt, and Jozzie." Then later Morgan was on the phone and said, 'Hi Grandpa Judy!" :) Then Jadey said it too and they both said the same thing several times. But they couldn't deter Joslyn. She was saying, "Grandma Judy."
They were really into 'cleaning' this morning. Joslyn had a cloth and was scrubbing down the windows, table, toys, etc. Then Lauralea started laughing and here Joslyn was cleaning Lauralea's shoes. The shoeshine girl. Then she started scrubbing on Morgan and it all went downhill from there. :)
Well it was a pretty normal play day for Joslyn. In this toy exchange that means wearing three vests at the same time, using the phones, and carrying two or three sets of keys around.
There was a crow sitting on the fence and the kids were lined up at the window. And of course they started pounding on the window. Goodbye crow.

Joslyn ate cheerios and 1/2 of banana for breakfast. For lunch she ate toasted cheese sandwich, drank tomato soup, and ate 1/2 of apple slices.
Joslyn sat in the chair with lots of books and read for a long time. She's pretty 'territorial' and frequently doesn't want anyone near her especially when she's intently engaged in something. Like reading books in the chair! :)
She was very concerned when baby Riley lost (threw) a toy over the side of the saucer. "Shim lost a toy, shim lost a toy.....!" We decided that "shim" was a cross between 'she' and 'him'. :)
She played with the dress up clothes and had on two vests. After closer examination I realized that one of the vests was really clothes for the doll. She had one arm in an arm hole and the other arm in a leg hole.
Thomas was sitting on the floor playing and Joslyn was running in circles around him. (Running in circles around something is a favorite game of this age group.) He was looking at her with an amused expression on his face. Like, "don't you have something better to do?"

Joslyn ate oatmeal and dried cranberries for breakfast. For lunch she ate ground burger, pasta and pea salad, and applesauce.
Little Aaron was here today and the kids all like having the visitor. I guess Joslyn thought she was his personal escort as she had him by the arm and was leading him around. :)
We had a Christmas CD going and she was singing along with Jingle Bells. It was very soft and I couldn't even hear her until I happened to be down close to her mouth. It was very cute.
She was poopy and I told her she needed to come to the changing table. She was determined that she needed to 'hide' her cell phone and keys so no one could play with them while she was gone. That just cracked us up. No one else does that here, so it must be learned behavior from brother Colt. She stashed them down behind the picnic table.
After breakfast Morgan was pulling down Joslyn's shirt sleeves and also fixing her pant leg. It's cute how they'll frequently help each other.

Joslyn ate blueberries and bite of blueberry bread pudding for breakfast. For lunch she had a turkey burger, ate green beans and kiwi.
Well you almost made it to the car before Joslyn had her first melt down. :) She had briefly moved away from the bench she was playing at and Kenzie had moved in. And it all went down hill from there. She ended up spending a few minutes alone and did much better the rest of the morning.
She had the keys and a cell phone in her hand most of the morning until we went to the back room about 10:45. She also played with some food toys at the table.
Our new baby, Nora, was here to visit this morning and all the kids were circled around her to get acquainted.
They played with the masks again and were looking at themselves in the mirror. Emily put on the wolf mask and Joslyn went for the piggy mask again. Hey, it's her choice with no influence from me. :)

Joslyn ate dried mangoes and most of jelly toast for breakfast. For lunch she had 2nd's on burritos, ate steamed broccoli, and tropical fruit.
Joslyn did much better today in regards to the screaming fits. She even yelled, "help me!!" once when Thomas was in her space. Using her words is what we're really trying to get her in the habit of doing. Screaming is so much easier and quicker and usually gets some kind of immediate result. So when she does say "help me" we try to be very prompt in answering and praising her for that response.
There was a buck deer in the driveway for several seconds before it moved on. The kids were lined up at the window watching it.
She was very engaged at one of the little workbenches for 30 - 40 minutes after breakfast. That's a long time for someone at that age. (no attention deficiency there) She was working with getting the threaded bolts screwed into holes on the bench and doing a good job with it. She had a couple other toys there too, but we were impressed with how long she stayed on task.
We have this little carpet in the back that has 'roads' on it and she was driving the cars and tractors around. She also played with the legos and stacked the interlocking blocks together.

Joslyn ate cinnamon roll and dried plums for breakfast. For lunch she ate scrambled eggs, 1/2 of waffles, 1/2 of hash browns, and 1/2 of melon.
Joslyn was putting on her bib for breakfast and the strings were hung up on her ponytails that Lauralea installed. :) She said, "it hang up pony."
We put on some upbeat Christmas music and she had fun dancing and spinning around. Except then it evolved into grabbing others and pulling them down to the floor. (she continued to think that was fun while the others weren't quite so sure.)
One of the things we've occasionally been struggling with concerning Joslyn is wanting all of the particular toys that she has. Today it was an issue. For example, if she has a small board book, she wants all of the small board books and then she'll throw a fit when we won't let that happen. Obviously this is a pretty common problem we deal with, but I was just wanting you to know it's been happening.
I'm going to include a couple pictures of Joslyn from today. She, Jadey, and Kenzie were taking turns laying on the table and covering each other up. The other picture is her wearing one of our many masks. This particular piggy mask is from the Three Little Pigs story.

Joslyn ate kix cereal and bites of mixed fruit for breakfast. For lunch she ate bites of ham sandwich, bites of sweet potatoes, ate mandarin oranges.
We did a toy, book, and puzzle exchange so Joslyn stayed pretty busy. She seemed to enjoy the food toys and spent lots of time with them.
She and Jadey were covering each other with the doll blankets and pretending to sleep. That evolved into something different and it looked like Jadey was giving her chest compressions. (CPR) :)
She had one of the cell phones and had her head all cocked off to one side holding it to her ear with her shoulder. She was jabbering, but all I could understand was "hello".
She had a couple episodes of screaming loud when she didn't get exactly what she wanted. For example, she had the little people piled into the dump truck, but she was mad because Thomas had one or two of them. And she wanted all of them. I had her go sit off by herself until she regained control and quit screaming. Later, something similar happened and she got up, kicked a couple toys, and went and put herself where I had her sit. She sat there and sucked her thumb and soon wandered off to play with something else. :)

Joslyn ate grapes and 2nd's on cinnamon toast for breakfast. For lunch she had bites of turkey, bite of dinner roll, ate mashed potatoes, ate cherries.
Her journal may be a bit shorter today because of her late arrival this morning.
Joslyn was sitting on the yellow bench reading a stack of books. She was sticking all the books down behind her back except for the one she's reading. It's the same thing that Lauralea does when she's reading during story time. It's usually a bit crowded on the couch so she'll 'store' the unread books behind her back. So the kids think that's where you put your books. We see lots of them do it that way. :)
Joslyn has struggled with taking toys from others at times this week. (also hoarding toys, and other types of conflicts.) That is obviously age appropriate behavior. But when we try to redirect her it's instant screaming. So she's had to have several occasions of having some alone time primarily because of not cooperating. (after it's happened two or three times.) And so she was needing some alone time again this morning.
She played with the airplanes, little people, stacking legos, and running around and around the chair with Emily. They were giggling and having a good time.
